Types of Anxiety Disorders

People with specific phobias may go to great lengths to avoid the feared object or situation, and their fear can significantly interfere with daily life.

Agoraphobia

Agoraphobia involves a fear of being in situations or places where escape might be difficult or help might not be available in the event of a panic attack or other anxiety symptoms.

People with agoraphobia may avoid crowded places, public transportation, open spaces, or situations where they feel trapped or unable to leave.

Agoraphobia often develops as a complication of panic disorder, but it can also occur independently.

Separation Anxiety Disorder

Separation anxiety disorder is characterized by excessive fear or anxiety about separation from attachment figures, such as parents or caregivers.

It is most commonly diagnosed in children, but it can also occur in adults.

Symptoms may include intense distress when anticipating or experiencing separation, reluctance or refusal to be alone, nightmares about separation, and physical symptoms such as headaches or stomachaches.
