A Step Towards Building an Emotionally Strong and Conscious India

Today, India stands at a turning point where emotional distress, anxiety, depression, and loneliness have silently become part of everyday life. From students under academic pressure, professionals facing workplace burnout, parents struggling with relationships, to senior citizens battling isolation — mental health challenges are everywhere, often unseen and unheard.

According to the National Mental Health Survey (NMHS), nearly 14% of India’s population requires active mental health intervention. The World Health Organization (WHO) warns that by 2030, depression will be the leading cause of disease burden worldwide.

In response to this urgent need, Manourja Mental Health Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and the Department of Medical and Psychiatric Social Work, Indore School of Social Work have come together to launch a national movement —

“Mental Health Movement India” — a people-led initiative dedicated to making India mentally conscious, compassionate, and resilient.

Vision of the Movement

Our vision is to create an India where mental health is prioritized, protected, and promoted at every level — individual, family, institution, and society. We aim to build an ecosystem where everyone feels safe to talk about their struggles and seek help without fear or shame.

Objectives

  1. Awareness & Education: Promote mental health literacy through nationwide awareness drives, school and college programs, and community workshops.
  2. Stigma Reduction: Challenge myths, misconceptions, and discrimination related to mental illness.
  3. Capacity Building: Train teachers, HR professionals, social workers, and youth leaders to identify and respond to emotional distress.
  4. Support & Connection: Develop networks of individuals and organizations working together to offer help and support.
  5. Suicide Prevention: Reduce suicide rates through early intervention, emotional support, and crisis awareness programs.
